How to prepare a home for a kitten
To ensure your kitten's first few days in its new home are peaceful and safe, it's important to prepare the space beforehand. Below are the most important steps:
1. Create a safe, peaceful place
To begin, prepare a quiet room for your kitten to settle in. This should be a quiet place, free from excessive stimulation and noise, where the kitten can rest and feel safe.
2. Secure hard-to-reach and dangerous spaces
Move or push furniture (wardrobes, chests of drawers, sofas) so that the kitten cannot enter narrow gaps, secure spaces behind wardrobes, under beds and household appliances, close access to washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and ovens.
3. Remove potential threats
Hide loose cables and extension cords, remove small items that your kitten could swallow, protect plants – many of them are toxic to cats,
close windows and balconies or protect them with a net.
4. Prepare basic equipment
The safe room should contain:
litter box, water and food bowls, bed or blanket, scratching post and a few toys.
5. Provide places to hide
Kittens often need a temporary "sanctuary." A cardboard box, a house, or a hideout will allow them to observe their surroundings and gradually gain confidence.
